10 Steps for Staging Your Oceanside, CA Home for Sale

Making your home appealing to buyers is 1 secret to a quick home sale. Potential purchasers need to be able to visualize themselves and their belongings in your home, before they buy. An easy way to accomplish this is to “stage” your home. Here are 10 quick and easy tips to give your home the polish it needs for a quick sale.

Clean, Clean, Clean – Clean the nooks and cranny, clean under and around the appliances, clean under and in back of the toilet. Clean with the intention for making things look new. No one wants to move into a home with a dirty stove or bathroom.

Declutter – Clutter can make your home look like there’s not enough storage space and clutter can distract from your homes best features. Clear all the surfaces of your counters and put away all your nicknacks. Pack them up and store them at a friends or family members home. Don’t just shove them in a closet or garage, the potential buyers will be looking there too!

Depersonalize – Take down all your photos and children’s artwork. Potential buyers won’t be able to see past them to put themselves into the home. Walls with scenic pictures or blank walls will allow the buyers to imagine themselves in their new home.

Remove odors – Take out the trash, put a lemon down the garbage disposal, bake some slice and bake cookies, or boil apple juice and cinnamon.

Repair walls and foundations – Cracks in walls on the inside or outside of your home will be huge red flags and may indicate issues with your foundation. Call in an inspector before potential buyers do.

Remove wallpaper and paint with warm,  neutral colors – You may think that white walls would make a great palate for potential buyers to envision their new home. But really warm, neutral colors appeal to more people and project a homey image.

Clean and upgrade flooring – Clean your carpet and deep clean your tile and linoleum. If your flooring looks worn you may want to replace it with neutral colored carpet or hardwood floor. Beautiful flooring will make your home appealing and add value to your home.

Let in the natural light – Take advantage of the natural light; clean the draperies and open the curtains. Replace dim light bulbs and broken fixtures. Add additional light sources and keep your home nice and bright.

Furniture – Make sure your furniture is in the correct proportion for your room. If need be take out a couple pieces of furniture to open the room up. You may even need to rent furniture to make your rooms homey and comfortable.

Spruce up the exterior of your home – The first thing potential buyer see is the outside of your home. Make sure it’s clean, neat and trim. Plant some new flowers to brighten up your walkway, trim bushes back and wash windows. Power wash the outside of your home to brighten up the color. You may even want to paint the trim. Make sure the house numbers are readable from the street so potential buyers can find you easily.
